Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is already looking ahead to next season after missing out on the Champions League places.

Manchester United secured the final spot in the Premier League's top four with a 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Thursday night, ensuring Liverpool will play Europa League football next season.

The Reds must now play a dead rubber against already-relegated Southampton on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Klopp will be desperate to move on quickly from the current campaign and has already set his sights on the summer transfer market, with Liverpool expected to make several major signings.

There will also be a number of outgoings - with James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino all leaving the club at the end of the season.

Another player who could be on his way out of Anfield this summer is 20-year-old Fabio Carvalho, who has struggled since joining the Reds in a £7.7m move from Fulham last year.

Klopp has admitted it has been a difficult debut campaign for the youngster, who has made just two Premier League appearances totalling eight minutes since the turn of the year.

Klopp admits Carvalho could leave Liverpool on loan

Klopp also praised Carvalho's work ethic and revealed the youngster could be sent out on loan next season to continue his development.

"I think there is a possibility Fabio [Carvalho] could go on loan, but we will see. This was not the best year of his career, his young career," said Klopp.

"No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that's the truth. This very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn't work out. His work ethic will give him a fantastic career.

"His reactions in a row [to not playing], I've never seen before, unbelievable.

"If we keep him, that's all we will see. There are no plans for loans, we want to keep them if we can give them the opportunity to play, we'll keep them because they definitely have the quality."
