Liverpool have entered the race to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak, alongside three other European clubs.

After experiencing an exciting Euros where he demonstrated his abilities, Isak endured a slightly underwhelming 2021/22 campaign, scoring just six La Liga goals across 32 appearances.

This came after consecutive seasons where the 22-year-old scored 17 and 16 goals for Sociedad across all competitions.

Despite the downturn in form last term, the Sweden international still has plenty of admirers across Europe, and has long been linked to the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have now expressed interest in the starlet and are ready to make a move for him in this transfer window.

It’s understood that Los Txuri-Urdin value Isak at somewhere between £42 million and £51 million, and with heavy competition from these aforementioned clubs, the Reds would face several hurdles in trying to complete this deal.

The forward arrived at Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019, penning a contract that keeps him at the club until 2026.

Given this lengthy contract, this could be another stumbling block in any potential move, with the Spanish side under little pressure to sanction a deal.

With Liverpool already signing Darwin Nunez this summer, arriving from Benfica for £85 million, it remains to be seen what sort of role Isak would receive on Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp also has the likes of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino at his disposal, so there is no clear place for Isak within the Reds’ squad.

However, with Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi all departing Anfield this summer, and only Nunez arriving as an out and out forward, more depth in these attacking positions could be deemed an area needing strengthening for Klopp.

With Firmino the wrong side of 30, the club could look to acquire Isak early to bed him in as the Brazilian’s long-term replacement.
