Arsenal ‘reach agreement’ for stunning £50m transfer as Mikel Arteta finally finds new forward

The Gunners are ready to spend big to improve their left side

After falling six points behind Liverpool in the title race, it appears Mikel Arteta has identified a key area for improvement in his Arsenal side and he is now ready to spend big to fix it.

The Gunners were Manchester City's closest challengers at the top of the Premier League table last season and were expected to push for a first league crown since 2004 this term.

But while City have stuttered, Arsenal have failed to take full advantage, instead trailing the Reds and Chelsea.

Arteta – who celebrates five years in charge at the Emirates this week – has built a formidable squad in north London, one with few obvious weaknesses.

But the left side of the Gunners' front line – where current options Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling have combined for just six league goals and four assists in the Premier League so far this term – is one.

And now, according to reports in Spain, Arsenal have moved to remedy that issue by agreeing a £50 million deal for Las Palmas left winger Alberto Moleiro.

A 21-year-old Spain under-21 international, Moleiro has been with Las Palmas his entire career and has impressed in La Liga this season with four goals from 15 starts.

Also able to play centrally as a No.10, the young forward is slight in stature but possesses a powerful shot from around the edge of the box and, despite not yet registering an assist in the Spanish top flight for the 2024-25 season, is known for his ability to link play and create in the final third.

The Canary Islands native enjoyed a breakout campaign last term, scoring three goals and providing three assists in 28 league outings.

According to Fichajes, Moleiro has caught the eye of a number of clubs around Europe recently, but Arsenal are said to have decided to pay his €60 million release clause.

"The official announcement could come in the coming months," the report claims, "but everything indicates that Alberto Moleiro's talent will shine at the Emirates Stadium, marking the start of a new stage in his career."
