Liverpool suffer massive injury blow as key player ruled out for the season

A huge blow for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has confirmed that he has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

It is a huge blow for the young Spaniard, who has become an increasingly important part of the Reds senior squad since the World Cup.

He started nine of the Reds' previous 11 games prior to Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid - a game the 18-year-old was forced to miss out on.

Before the game, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Bajcetic was suffering from an adductor problem, but could not put a timeframe on his return to action, or the extent of the injury.

Now, the Spaniard has revealed the update that Liverpool certainly would have feared.

Bajcetic posts Liverpool injury update

Taking to his official Instagram account, Bajcetic has confirmed that he will not play again for the Reds this season.

He wrote: "Unfortunately I've picked up an injury that will keep me out until the end of the season.

"It's very sad to say goodbye to this amazing season for me but I understand this is part of football and will only make me stronger physically and mentally.

"I would also like to say thank you to you reds for all the support throughout the season and I assure you I will do my best to be back stronger than ever."

After being knocked out of the Champions League by Real via a 6-2 aggregate scoreline, the remainder of Liverpool's season will consist of 12 Premier League games.

Bajcetic will be a big miss throughout that period, having established himself in the Reds' midfield with a number of impressive performances in recent months.

The 18-year-old will now recover from his injury as his team-mates attempt to qualify for next season's Champions League. The Reds are sixth place in the league table, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.

Bajcetic will hope to then make his comeback before pre-season gets underway.
