Jurgen Klopp makes significant team selection decision ahead of Napoli game

Jurgen Klopp makes significant team selection decision ahead of Napoli game

Jurgen Klopp hinted that he will not make wholesale changes for Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against Napoli.

Jurgen Klopp hinted that he will not make wholesale changes for Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against Napoli on Tuesday despite the Reds’ dismal form.

Crysencio Summerville's 89th-minute winner on Saturday consigned Liverpool to a second consecutive Premier League defeat and their fourth in 12 league games.

The Reds now sit in ninth place, 15 points behind table-toppers Arsenal and eight behind fourth-placed Newcastle.

Klopp’s side must now turn their attention to Tuesday when they take on Napoli in the Champions League.

With both sides having already qualified for the last 16 of the competition, the game might have been seen as an opportunity to rest key players given Liverpool take on Tottenham in the league the following weekend.

However, Klopp hinted that he would stick to a similar 11 that started the Leeds defeat.

The Liverpool boss said: “There is no excuse for it or whatever but we have the problem from the first day with injuries or half-fit players who are not injured. So that’s what we carry with us in the moment and that’s why some players play too often and other players have to play too early.

“That’s the situation and the next game is already waiting, and now you might say Naples, it’s a home game, we are already through in the group.

“I would say it’s Liverpool against Napoli and we should put in a proper performance.

“At least we need again 11 starters and then a few days later we play away at Tottenham, so that’s our situation.

“It’s not now for a main overhaul and all these kinds of things – no, you have to fight through and you have to fight for momentum, for confidence, for security.”

Liverpool must beat Napoli by three goals or more to leapfrog them into top spot of Group A.

Meanwhile, the visitors, who beat Klopp's side 4-1 on matchday one, are aiming to maintain their 100 percent Champions League record this season.
