"Watch him" - Man United players told to emulate "phenomenal" Liverpool man

Paul Merson has stated Liverpool's Luis Diaz is a 'top, top’ forward and Man United players should look to emulate his attitude.

Diaz has shone for the Merseyside club since arriving in January, and his excellent solo goal against Crystal Palace last Monday rescued a draw for a Liverpool side that were down to 10 men.

Merson was full of praise for the Colombian’s goal and when discussing it on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, he said: “Brilliant goal - great feet and his composure to throw in the dummy. Honestly, it’s a top drawer goal, that is."

“Playing with 10 men, there are four players round him, he goes past them, past a fifth, and then bends it around the sixth. It’s a phenomenal, phenomenal goal. Fair play to him.”

The former Arsenal defender continued to speak highly of the winger on the show:

“He works his socks off. If you were the Man United manager you’d say, ‘Watch him. Just watch him play’. Watch how you’ve got a top, top player who works his socks off."

“And when he’s not playing well, he still works so, so hard for the team.”

Despite Diaz’s brilliance, it has been somewhat of a tough start to the Premier League season for the Reds as they could also only muster a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Fulham on the opening day.

However, it will come as a consolation to Liverpool fans that their rivals have had even more of a nightmarish opening to the campaign.

After two games, United sit rock bottom of the table after losing 2-1 to Brighton and being thumped 4-0 by Brentford and they face an even tougher test today as they welcome Jurgen Klopp’s side to Old Trafford.

Erik Ten Hag will certainly be hoping his players are up for the test and can replicate some of the unbelievable hard work Luis Diaz puts in every game, which has seen him become a fan favourite at Anfield.
