Liverpool have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star midfielder Jude Bellingham this summer.

It's no secret that the Reds have been tracking the progress of the English teenage sensation, especially after his standout performances at the World Cup in Qatar.

Manager Jurgen Klopp revealed last month that the 19-year-old was on the clubs' radar but it appears they are not the only ones interested in signing him.

According to The Athletic, Real Madrid have 'long identified' Bellingham as a 'priority' and have been working on a deal for months.

Despite this, it's understood the player's most likely destination is the Premier League and Madrid are becoming "resigned" to the fact that the money English clubs can offer is unbeatable.

Liverpool will face competition from current league champions Manchester City though and if they fail to qualify for the Champions League then a move to Pep Guardiola's side could be more likely.

Bellingham is exactly what Liverpool need

Since moving to Dortmund from Birmingham City back in 2020 Bellingham has taken Europe by storm and fast become one of the best young players around.

In 115 appearances for the German side he has been directly involved in 43 goals from midfield and given his age he's only going to get even better.

However, it's his performances for England at the World Cup that have elevated him to another level.

He was arguably the best player in Gareth Southgate's side starting every single match in their run to the quarter-final where they were knocked out by 2018 winners France.

Many believe Liverpool's poor form this season has been down to the lack of investment in the midfield area of the team.

If they are to compete with the best in Europe once again then signing Bellingham or someone of his calibre is a must.
