Fans think Virgil van Dijk should have been sent off following his nasty-looking challenge on Amadou Onana during the goalless Merseyside derby.
Van Dijk caused a stir online after picking up just a yellow card for his tackle on Onana in the second half of the Premier League clash on Saturday.
But he escaped a red card, with match referee Anthony Taylor showing the player a yellow card.
However, people on social media believe the Dutchman should have received a red card for his poor challenge.
How didn’t VAR not give a red card to Van Dijk for that challenge on Onana?— ⁹ 8x🏆 (@ErlingRoIe) September 3, 2022
Is Jermaine Jenas telling Onana to 'get over it' after being stamped on by Van Dijk? Am I hearing that right? Nice unbiased commentary there.— Sean Lunt (@Sean_Lunt) September 3, 2022
You know if that Onana foul happened the other way round he'd get a red, as would most players in the league— Scott Bird (@Birdiex94x) September 3, 2022
How tf does Van Dijk get away with it 🙄
One tweeted: "100% red."
A second wrote: "No other player gets away with that."
A third added: "Liverpool getting away with things again. If Xhaka does that it’s a straight red."
