Virgil van Dijk was booked for his tackle.

Fans think Virgil van Dijk should have been sent off following his nasty-looking challenge on Amadou Onana during the goalless Merseyside derby.

Van Dijk caused a stir online after picking up just a yellow card for his tackle on Onana in the second half of the Premier League clash on Saturday.

The Liverpool defender planted his right foot high on the Everton midfielder's shin.

But he escaped a red card, with match referee Anthony Taylor showing the player a yellow card.

However, people on social media believe the Dutchman should have received a red card for his poor challenge.

One tweeted: "100% red."

A second wrote: "No other player gets away with that."

A third added: "Liverpool getting away with things again. If Xhaka does that it’s a straight red."
