Man Utd target now 'in Liverpool's hands' after 'promise' from Jurgen Klopp's side

Manchester United target Enzo Fernandez is now more likely to join Liverpool after a promise was made by Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Manchester United target Enzo Fernandez is now more likely to join Liverpool after a promise was made by Jurgen Klopp’s side, according to reports.

Last weekend it emerged that Liverpool had secured a pre-contract agreement with the Benfica and Argentina star.

Reports from Spanish media outlet Diario AS and Record in Portugal claimed that the player had agreed to a pre-contract. with the Reds. However, both outlets have cited that the reports emerged in the other nation and neither claim the story as their own.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old would be an ideal signing for Klopp’s side. The Reds are in dire need of midfield reinforcements having missed out on Aurelien Tchouameni last summer, with the France international instead opting to join Real Madrid from Monaco.

They’ve been keeping close tabs on Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, who could still technically be signed in addition to Fernandez.

United were also reportedly keen on Fernandez, but it appears they could miss out on the player to their bitter rivals.

Liverpool’s promise

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, not only do Liverpool have a pre-agreement with Fernandez, but the Reds have also “promised to match” any proposal from elsewhere for the midfielder.

The report claims that Fernandez is “already in Liverpool’s hands” and that the player is leaning towards a move to Merseyside.

However, a summer transfer is believed to be more likely than a winter move. O Jogo claim that the proposed “pre-agreement” has been secured with a summer move in mind.

Indeed, Benfica reportedly have a £102million release clause that would be activated if Fernandez were to leave in the January window, which is in excess of what Klopp’s side are willing to pay.
