A section of Paris Saint Germain fans was captured booing Lionel Messi prior to their Ligue 1 clash against Rennes.

In recent weeks, Messi’s future with PSG has been plunged into darkness after the club’s Champions League exit.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season and to date, nothing new has been agreed between the two parties.

Some of the fans inside the Parc des Princes stadium showed their discontent towards Messi when his name was read out by the stadium announcer. You can watch the footage below.

Aside from Messi, PSG boss Christophe Galtier’s name was also greeted with a chorus of boos when it was announced.

To add fuel to the fire, PSG produced a poor display as they were beaten 2-0 by Rennes, thanks to goals from Karl Toko Ekambi and Arnaud Kalimuendo.

The defeat by Rennes meant PSG have now lost four of their last eight matches.

Although it was a below-par performance, the hostility towards Messi may seem unfair, due to the fact that he has been one of their standout players.

This season, Messi has managed 18 goals and 17 assists in all competitions for the Parisian club.

With regard to his future, the Argentina legend has been linked with a sensational move back to his former club, Barcelona.

Former teammate Sergi Roberto previously said: “I hope Messi comes back. We are waiting for him. He does not deserve the treatment he receives in Paris.

“We are waiting for Leo, we want him at Barca.”

Whilst some fans are adamant that Messi wants out.

One said: “Surely he’s done with Paris now?”

Another commented: “He should come back to where he’s loved and respected.”

After the international break, Messi and PSG will resume their quest to defend their Ligue 1 crown with a clash against rivals Lyon.

Will Messi leave PSG at the end of the season? Only time will tell.
