Lionel Messi is such a sublime footballer than sometimes even the opposition just had to stand and applaud his genius. Watch the video below:

The Paris Saint-Germain star produced another moment of magic on Saturday as his side thrashed Clermont Foot in their opening match of the new Ligue 1 season.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner scored an outrageous bicycle kick to round off a 5-0 win for the French champions.

It came after he had already scored in the match and set up Neymar for another goal with an assist which, if intentional, was also out of this world.

It was not just PSG supporters that were blown away by the Argentine's overall performance.

After he scored his sensational acrobatic goal late on, fans of the home side Clermont Foot applauded the forward and chanted his name in the stands.

Other bowed down to the Messi as a mark of respect for the Argentina international.

The goal has also drawn huge praise on social media.

"You can't watch this incredible little man and not think he's The GOAT," wrote one fan on Twitter.

Another added: "Incredible goal from Messi, sensational. Absolutely ridiculous, the movement in behind is superb.

"The pass from Leandro Paredes is quality but the touch and the agility of Messi to finish that is out of this world."

Messi managed only six goals in Ligue 1 last season but already looks set to have a much more successful campaign in his second year in France.

He will hope to continue his excellent form when PSG return to action against Montpellier on Saturday.
