Lionel Messi has won so many awards he gave one to teammate

Being the GOAT requires a big trophy cabinet.

Lionel Messi has won plenty of trophies and awards during his career, so many in fact that he's now started giving them away.

Messi is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, and for good reason.

There's only so much one can say about the Argentine's abilities without straying into hyperbole, but his honours list speaks for itself.

During a 17-year spell at Barcelona Messi won 10 La Liga titles, seven Copas del Rey and four Champions Leagues, while at Paris Saint-Germain he looks set to win Ligue 1 for a second time.

On the international stage he helped Argentina end a trophy drought, captaining them to Copa America glory in 2021 before lifting the World Cup trophy in December.

He's not done badly on an individual level either.

The 35-year-old has won 15 Argentine Footballer of the Year awards, six European Golden Shoes and a record seven Ballon d’Ors.

With so many trophies in his cabinet, Messi could have trouble finding home for an eighth Ballon d'Or, should he win it this year.

Perhaps that's why Messi has started giving away some of his prizes, with one going to PSG and Argentina teammate Leandro Paredes.

The midfielder, currently on loan at Italian giants Juventus, recently showed journalists around his home in Turin.

To their surprise, Paredes revealed that Messi's La Liga 2020-21 Best Player award was on his shelf.

When asked how he came to be in possession of the award, Paredes said: "He [Messi] arrived in Paris, I asked him if he would give it to me and he gave it to me.”

For most players, such an award would be something to be kept under lock and key. But when you're the best player in history, what's one award really worth?

Fans on Twitter couldn't believe it.

"Bro's giving away awards now," one said, while another commented, "he really doesn't care about individual awards."

Another said: "Imagine winning so many trophies and awards to the point where you just start giving them away. Messi is madness."
