Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba and Neymar are rumoured to be playable characters in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

Over the years, the Call of Duty series has had many crossovers and collaborations with various celebrities.

Call Of Duty: Warzone added characters from The Terminator, Rambo and Die Hard, while Call Of Duty: Vanguard even allowed gamers to play as legendary rapper Snoop Dogg.

There are now rumours that developers Activision are planning to include several high-profile footballers in Modern Warfare II, which will be released in the UK on October 28.

It has been claimed that a list of footballers' names can be found in leaked files for the game.

While the game is yet to be released, the supposed leak could potentially have come from the Beta version which was available to play last month.

Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope posted a list of operator names to Twitter, which included Messi, Neymar and Pogba – sparking speculation the three players could be involved in the game.

The full list consists of Aksel, Connor, Gromsco, Klaus, Luna, Messi, Neymar, Pogba, Reyes, Roze.

Images of characters resembling Pogba and Neymar have also circulated on social media in the build-up to the game's release.

Fans have speculated whether Messi, Neymar and Pogba could be included in the game as a potential crossover event during the World Cup in Qatar, which begins on November 20.

Argentina talisman Messi and Brazil star Neymar are expected to feature at the tournament, while Pogba faces a race against time to feature for France – having suffered a knee injury in pre-season with Juventus.

Fans are split over whether the trio would be good additions to Modern Warfare II.

"I've waited 15+ years to be Messi in cod said no one ever," posted one fan on Twitter.

Another wrote: "Imma freak out if this is real."

While a third added: "Messi coming to Call Of Duty, TAKE MY F*****G MONEY."
