Lionel Messi is set to sign for MLS side Inter Miami

Lionel Messi is reportedly closing in on a deal to sign for MLS club Inter Miami.

After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed last week that Messi will leave Paris Saint Germain this month upon the expiration of his current contract.

Since the news of his exit was announced, Messi has been linked with a move to the Middle East with Saudi Professional League club Al Hilal thought to be interested, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was also linked with a sensation return to Barcelona.

However, on Wednesday afternoon, it was widely claimed that Messi will sign for David Beckham’s Inter Miami side and that an announcement by the Argentina legend could be imminent.

As the football world looks forward to Messi’s next move, he may have to change his shirt number again.

At the start of his career with Barcelona, he wore the number 30 shirt, then the number 19 before inheriting the famous number 10 shirt from Ronaldinho at the start of the 08/09 season.

When he made the switch to PSG, he was offered the number 10 shirt but declined and chose to wear the number 30 instead.

The number 30 shirt is currently being worn by Benjamin Cremaschi at Inter Miami.

As a result, it is likely that he will have to pick a new number.

However, the number 10 shirt is vacant at the moment and Messi could well be wearing that number when his move to the MLS is officially confirmed.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “BREAKING: Lionel Messi to Inter Miami, here we go! The decision has been made and it will be announced by Leo in the next hours.

“Messi will play in MLS. No more chances for Barcelona/Al Hilal despite trying to make it happen.”
