Kolo Toure may have spent the last few years peeking from behind shower curtains, telling everyone there is no need to be upset and cultivating enough mass to feed a family of six for an entire winter but perhaps the mighty Ivorian's greatest gift to the world is this story about his trial at Arsenal.

Toure enjoyed a great deal of success with the Gunners, becoming one of their Invincibles in 2004 when they lifted the Premier League title after going the entire campaign unbeaten. However, his career in North London almost didn't take off, as Times journalist Oliver Kay revealed in a tweet to celebrate Toure's 35th birthday, today.

The story comes courtesy of John Cross' book on Arsene Wenger and tells the tale of how Toure, despite being told not to tackle during training, made a horror challenge on Thierry Henry then followed that up by taking out Dennis Bergkamp and, as if ruining his new team's finest two players wasn't enough, Toure then took out Wenger himself!
