Luka Modric is set to leave Real Madrid next summer upon the expiry of his contract, according to a new report.

The Croatian signed for Los Blancos from Tottenham in 2012, and bounced back from being voted as La Liga's 'worst signing' to become one of the division's greatest players of the modern era.

A Ballon d'Or winner in 2018, Modric has also won five Champions League titles with Real, and has been an integral part of their side in central midfield for over a decade.

Now 38, there had been doubts over whether the midfielder would remain at the club this season before he signed a contract extension in June.

He has only started six games in La Liga this term, although has been more of a regular in the Champions League.

And according to Spanish outlet Sport, Modric is in 'his last months as a Real Madrid player', and the club is planning for next season without the legendary Croatia international.

The report adds that the midfielder's role 'seems to be of little importance' given the emergence of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, and resurgence of Dani Ceballos.

However, manager Carlo Ancelotti is said to be keen to keep Modric until the end of the season, given his experience and the injuries within the Real setup at present.

Speaking to Shooot last month, Modric's agent revealed that the player had received offers from the Saudi Pro League in the summer, and left the door open to a move there in the future.

He said: "This summer there was interest in Modric with the aim of signing him.

"The player has several offers, from a club in the capital and another club. Modric is currently thinking about Real Madrid, but the idea of him moving to the Saudi Pro League is possible if the offer is suitable."

The midfielder admitted earlier in the season that he was not happy with his gametime at Real, but that it would not affect his commitment to the team.

"No-one is happy when they don't play," he told Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti. "After my entire career [starting], that feeling is especially strange to me.

"But well, the coach has decided for his own reasons. I won't sink or ease off because of that. The opposite."
