Kylian Mbappe 'misses out on becoming La Liga's highest earner' after pay cut with surprise name above him

Mbappe is one of the highest-earning players in the division.

Kylian Mbappe is not the highest earner in La Liga after signing for Real Madrid, according to a new report.

Mbappe officially signed for Real on July 1 on a five-year deal following the expiry of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

His presentation took place earlier this month, with the Frenchman reportedly becoming only the second Real player in history after Cristiano Ronaldo to command a sold-out Bernabeu for the event.

Euro 2024 didn't exactly prove to be the perfect preparation for the beginning of life in Madrid, as Mbappe suffered a broken nose during France's opening group game against Austria.

The protective equipment he needed to wear in subsequent matches appeared to clearly affect him, with the forward eluding to as much in the media.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Real's medical staff do not believe that Mbappe will need surgery to correct the break, with the forward instead not involved in the club's pre-season tour of the United States as a result.

Meanwhile, his Real contract will make him one of the highest-paid players in the world - but he is not the highest earner in La Liga, according to reports.

The Sun claim that Mbappe will earn £26.3 million per season as part of his contract, with that putting him in third place in the divisional top earners.

The highest earner, perhaps surprisingly, is instead Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, who earns £31.6 million per year.

It is that wage that is perhaps putting off Manchester United this summer, with Erik ten Hag's side having been linked with the Dutchman over recent summer transfer windows.

In second place on the list is said to be De Jong's club team-mate Robert Lewandowski, who nets £28.2 million, while Mbappe's Real team-mate David Alaba is in fourth on £19 million.

Notably, both Mbappe and Alaba joined Los Blancos on free transfers, with the Austrian defender arriving from Bayern Munich in 2022. He is recovering from a serious knee injury suffered earlier this year.
