La Liga have asked the Spanish FA (RFEF) to investigate an alleged comment made by Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham towards Mason Greenwood.

The comment was allegedly made during Real's 2-0 win over Getafe on Thursday, in which Bellingham and Greenwood both started for their respective sides.

After the match, Getafe complained to La Liga over an alleged incident involving the pair, with the league stating: "Getafe yesterday transferred the complaint to the La Liga match director and La Liga, as it always does on these occasions, has requested an expert report on lip reading to investigate the matter and act on the basis of what can be proven beyond doubt (by the lip reader)."

Neither club has publicly commented on the incident.

One part of La Liga protocol is that the league sends over a report to the RFEF after every gameweek, which cites incidents that may need further investigation or action.

The report includes the alleged incident involving Bellingham, with the note reading (via ESPN): "It must also be reported that after the end of the match, messages were detected through social media regarding a possible incident in which visiting player Jude Bellingham allegedly insulted local player Mason Greenwood in English.

"Numerous media outlets have reported on this incident, as evidenced in the attached incident report."

Footage of the alleged incident emerged on social media, although no audio accompanies the video.

Greenwood is currently on a season-long loan at Getafe, with the forward set to leave Manchester United after it was determined via mutual consent that he would leave the club.

The forward's last game for United was in January 2022, shortly before he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He was suspended by the club, and subsequently charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges were discontinued in February, with the Crown Prosecution Service stating that 'a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.

Greenwood is under contract at United in 2025, and it is unclear as to whether the club will sell him next summer or loan him out until the conclusion of his deal amid reported transfer interest from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Getafe themselves.
