Carlo Ancelotti gave a hilarious response when asked if he would consider a €500m (£429m) offer to coach in Saudi Arabia.

Over the past year, the Saudi Pro League has sent shockwaves through the world of football by signing several elite men's players from top European clubs.

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Al-Nassr last December, and over the summer he was followed by the likes of Neymar, Riyad Mahrez and Karim Benzema.

None of the game's top managers have been tempted to take up a job in Saudi Arabia, although that hasn't stopped speculation that Carlo Ancelotti could become the first.

The Italian coach has enjoyed trophy-laden spells at the likes of AC Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid, but his future is uncertain.

The 64-year-old, whose contract at the Bernabeu will expire at the end of the season. has been heavily linked with the Brazilian national team, along with several Saudi sides.

During a press conference on Friday, Ancelotti was asked if he would consider moving to the Gulf state if offered the same sort of money as professional golfer Jon Rahm, who will leave the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-backed LIV tour after accepting an offer worth €500m over four years.

"On foot. On foot. I'm walking, I don’t need to take a flight," joked Ancelotti.

"I'm joking, everyone makes their choices.

"The world is changing. And it will change. It’s no surprise to anyone. Jon Rahm is very good. I’m not a golf expert, but Jon Rahm seems to me to be the best of all."

The Madrid boss went on to deny that he has spoken to officials from any Saudi clubs.

"No, they have not called me and I live in the present. The present is very good," he added.

"I have another idea that is not that right now. I have never looked at money, because I grew up in a family in which money was not important. And the truth is that I have money.

"For me the important thing is to feel good, it could be that one day I will feel good in Saudi Arabia, but for now, I feel good here."

Though Ancelotti was joking around, he didn't shut the door on a move to Saudi Arabia. Perhaps he isn't as nailed-on to take the Brazil job as we all thought.
