Marcus Rashford could be prevented from playing for Barcelona in the La Liga ahead of the new season amid registration issues.

Rashford joined Barca from Manchester United on a season-long loan.

He scored his first goal for his new side in Monday's 5-0 victory over South Korean outfit Daegu as fans spotted how he celebrated his strike.

Barca have one more fixture before they open their La Liga campaign against Real Mallorca on August 16.

But Rashford risks not being able to represent the Catalan giants should they fail to register their summer signing.

Why haven't Barcelona registered Marcus Rashford?

Barca have endured registration issues due to financial problems for over three years now, having had difficulty registering Dani Olmo, who returned to the club in the summer of 2024, until they exploited a loophole.

Joan Laporta inherited a club steeped in debut upon returning to Barca as president following his initial term from 2003 to 2010.

Lionel Messi was forced to leave the Camp Nou because his new contract could not be registered, with the club using levers to register signings while complying with the league's regulations.

What will happen if Barcelona can't register Marcus Rashford?

Rashford was hellbent on signing for Barca after Man United made him available in the transfer market.

The 27-year-old, though, could see his dream of playing for Barca cruelly denied if Barca fail to register him for La Liga competition.

If they are unable to register him, the Man United loanee can train with the first-team and play in non-competitive matches, meaning he won't be allowed to play in the league.

What has Marcus Rashford said?

Despite Barca's dire financial situation, Rashford is confident the club will 'sort' his registration.

Given it's out of his control, the England international said he is just focusing on training and getting ready for the start of the season.

"It's something for the club to sort out," he told reporters.

"I believe they are going to get it sorted. I just focus on training and be ready for the start of the season."

What has Joan Laporta said about Barcelona's registration issues?

Like Rashford, Laporta believes Barca will be able to register the star forward as well as Joan García, Roony Bardghji not to mention Wojciech Szczesny and Gerard Martín.

"It's progressing well," he revealed. "We're doing our job and we're confident that we'll be able to register everyone."
