Jose Mourinho produced a telling reaction when asked about links to Barcelona, rivals of his former employers Real Madrid.

On Tuesday Mourinho was sacked by Roma after two-and-a-half years in the job.

The Portuguese manager had led Roma to the Conference League and Europa League final last term but was dismissed after a poor run of form.

His last game in charge was a derby defeat to Lazio in the Coppa Italia, with Roma icon Daniele De Rossi taking the reins.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs boss has already been linked with a number of jobs, including struggling Barcelona.

Xavi Hernandez finds himself under serious pressure and Mourinho, who worked for Barcelona under Louis van Gaal many moons ago, has been tipped as a potential successor.

The 60-year-old is not thought of too fondly by Barcelona fans after a bitter feud during which he pipped them to the Copa del Rey and La Liga title.

He was recently spotted arriving at Barcelona airport, further adding to speculation that he could be taking charge of the Blaugrana.

Journalists tried to get some information out of the Special One - and though he didn't answer questions - he did smile when asked about Barcelona rumours.

It had been reported that Mourinho had a verbal agreement to take the reins of Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab after positive talks with the club.

He is said to have spoken to sporting director Domenico Tite over Zoom but journalist Pedro Morata claims Mourinho ultimately rejected the big-money proposal.

Instead, Mourinho is believed to be waiting for a job that would motivate him to make a swift return to the dug-out.

Mourinho's dream job is believed to be with the Portugal national team but Roberto Martinez is currently at the helm and so that potential move will likely not happen anytime soon.
