Barcelona fans turn on their own player after he costs them the game against Monaco, they want him gone for good

Barcelona were beaten in their Champions League opener against Monaco and fans fumed at one of their stars.

Barcelona fans turned on their own player after feeling as though he cost them their first Champions League game of the season.

The Blaugrana took on Monaco at the Stade Louis II for their opening fixture but got off to a disappointing start, losing 2-1.

Hansi Flick's side played 80 minutes of the clash with 10 men after former Manchester City defender Eric Garcia was sent off.

Garcia, who spent last season on loan at Catalan neighbours Girona, received his marching orders from Allard Lindhout after bringing down former Liverpool star Takumi Minamino.

It came after a poor pass from goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Barca were punished.

The hosts went 1-0 up shortly after through Maghnes Akliouche before Barca sensation Lamine Yamal levelled matters.

George Ilenikhena scored the winner in the 71st minute, racing in behind and slotting home to inflict Barca's first defeat of the campaign.

And fans blamed one player for the loss, pinning it on Ter Stegen after a poor showing.

He gave away the ball for the sending off and many feel as though he should have saved the winner from Ilenikhena, whose shot was down the middle.

One fumed: "For any other GK of the top teams of the top 5 league, this is worst performance of their career, for Ter Stegen this is not even top 10 worst UCL performance."

A second said: "Shot straight at him. Ter stegen with the worst UCL performance by a goalkeeper ever."

A third added: "Might as play a midfielder in goal, at least that way the distribution might be better."

A fourth brutally stated: "The worst goalkeeper I've ever seen play for my club."

A final person wrote: "Any other keeper in the world and the striker is getting criticized for a terrible finish, our keeper makes him look good."
