La Liga Needs 'World-Class' Player To Fill Void Left Behind By Lionel Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo

Raul Albiol says that it is "important" for Real Madrid to target the likes of Kylian Mbappe and lure players of his quality to La Liga.

Kylian Mbappe has been named as the type of “world-class” star that La Liga needs after the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

That is according to Villarreal player Raul Albiol, who insisted that it is “important” for the Spanish league to recruit the best players in the world.

Messi and Ronaldo enjoyed a fierce on-pitch rivalry in La Liga while playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Ronaldo left Madrid in 2018 to complete a sensational move to Juventus, while Messi completed a stunning free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain last month.

Albiol, who played alongside Ronaldo at Los Blancos, has urged Madrid to lure the likes of Mbappe to Spain.

When asked if Mbappe would be a welcome addition in La Liga, he told Diario AS: “I would like to see him in the league, he is a great player, world-class and I think players like this are needed in the Spanish league after the departure of Cristiano and Messi -- it is important that they come.

“And important for Real Madrid, which is a team that I have played for.”

Mbappe, 22, has been linked with a blockbuster move to Madrid for some time amid growing uncertainty over his PSG future.

The PSG superstar’s current deal expires in 2022, but Los Blancos made a staggering £189m offer to sign Mbappe before the transfer window closed on 31st August.

The Parisian-based club managed to keep hold of Mbappe for the Ligue 1 season, but he will be free to speak with clubs in January ahead of becoming a free agent.

Speaking to ESPN in August, PSG star Angel Di Maria insisted that Mbappe would stay at the club and warned him he would not “find a better team than this.”

The 33-year-old Argentine winger said: “I think Mbappe will stay. It's obvious that he's a player that all the big teams want but with the team that PSG have now, I don't think he's going to leave.

“I don't think he will find a better team than this.”
