Fans are convinced Kyle Walker should have been sent off after 'being booked twice' in Italy vs England

England fans were left scratching their heads after it appeared that Kyle Walker received two yellow cards against Italy, despite remaining on the pitch for the match.

Gareth Southgate’s men kicked off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Italy, who defeated England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice fired England into a first-half lead before Tottenham striker Harry Kane doubled his side’s advantage from the spot-kick.

Kane’s penalty before half-time moved him ahead of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time record goalscorer.

Mateo Retegui pulled one back for Italy early in the second half, but England managed to hold on to their 2-1 lead, despite being reduced to 10 men after Luke Shaw’s sending off.

But fans were left confused in Thursday’s Euro 2024 qualifier after believing that Walker had been booked in the 53rd and 71st minutes of the match.

Walker received a booking in the 71st minute for time-wasting and fans were convinced he should have been sent marching for a second booking.

However, it would appear that the 32-year-old England right-back’s first booking was actually a mistake, despite initially being picked up by betting sites.

“Kyle Walker shown two yellows this half but not a red,” one fan wrote during the match.

Someone else said: “Why is Kyle Walker still playing on two yellow cards?”

A third Twitter user posted: “Kyle Walker has two yellows… HELLO?!?!”

Another commented: “Has Kyle Walker just been given two yellows but no red?”

While one fan tweeted: “Kyle Walker got two yellows and is still on the pitch how has no one clocked this?”

England’s victory over Italy moved them top of Group C, with second-place North Macedonia level on points after their 2-1 win over Malta.
