Bayern Munich make 'initial contact' with Liverpool target Khephren Thuram

Thuram has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

Bayern Munich have reportedly made 'initial contact' with Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram amid interest from Liverpool and Newcastle.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with Thuram as Jurgen Klopp looks to continue his summer rebuild, having already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Thuram made 48 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 side during the 2022/23 campaign, notching two goals and providing a further eight assists from midfield.

In turn, the Frenchman has caught the attention of the Reds, who were allegedly 'pushing hard to secure a full agreement' with the dynamic midfielder.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old added fuel to speculation when he 'liked' an Instagram post about Dominik Szoboszlai taking Liverpool's iconic No.8 shirt.

However, in a blow to their transfer hopes, Bayern Munich have reportedly arrived on the scene.

Bayern make 'initial contact' with Thuram

French outlet Foot Mercato confirmed Bayern's interest, claiming that "initial contact" had been made between Thuram and Bayern Munich.

News of Bayern's interest will come as a welcome boost to Nice, who are hoping for a bidding war to emerge for their prized asset, with the Ligue 1 side holding out for their €50m asking price.

The publication adds that Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is particularly keen to bring the France international to the Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, it is thought that the Bavarians will push for Thuram’s signature and have plans to meet the player’s entourage.

However, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has rubbished reports, tweeting: "Been told Thuram is NO transfer target for FC Bayern! No negotiations!"

Thuram is currently enjoying a break from the pitch after an exhausting season Nice and France’s U21 national team.

Les Bleus were unable to get past Ukraine in the quarter-finals of the Under-21 European Championships, with Thuram playing 70 minutes of their 3-1 defeat.
