Kevin De Bruyne wore a Sheffield Wednesday shirt during Man City's treble celebrations

Kevin De Bruyne wore a Sheffield Wednesday shirt during Man City's treble celebrations

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne wore a Sheffield Wednesday shirt after they won the Champions League.

Kevin De Bruyne, one of the world's best players, could be seen wearing a Sheffield Wednesday shirt from the '90's as treble-winning Manchester City celebrated their Champions League final success.

It was a weekend of mixed emotions for the Belgian midfielder, who 'snapped' his hamstring during Saturday's final against Inter Milan – an injury that could see him miss the start of the Premier League season.

He will undergo tests in the coming days to understand the severity of the hamstring tear but in the meantime, De Bruyne has been partying with the likes of Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker after their 1-0 win.

In fact, he decided to wind-up Sheffield United academy product Walker on Sunday by wearing a Sheffield Wednesday shirt – and boyhood Blades fan Walker wasn't best pleased.

Check out the scenes below.

In all seriousness though, Walker appeared entertained by De Bruyne's decision to wear the iconic Wednesday shirt worn by Paolo Di Canio and Des Walker in years gone by.

The England international can be seen having a quiet word with his City teammate, who was in stitches wearing the famous blue and white.

As well as winding up Kyle Walker, some have suggested former Wednesday captain Glenn Loovens is responsible for the outfit change.

Loovens was spotted wearing the exact same shirt during Saturday's final in Istanbul. The Dutchman, who played for Celtic, Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday during a 19-year career, knows De Bruyne off the pitch.

De Bruyne's wife Michele is also good friends with Loovens' partner.

One fan commented on the above post, saying: "Is this the shirt KDB ended up with?" while another added: "Looks like De Bruyne ended up wearing that shirt."

Manchester City will continue to celebrate their treble-winning campaign with an open-top bus parade through Manchester city centre on the evening of Monday 12 June.

Pep Guardiola and the squad will depart from Tonman Street, Deansgate, at approximately 18:30 (UK) and travel to St Mary’s Gate.

The parade will then travel through Cross Street and King Street, before finishing on the corner of Princess Street and Portland Street.

A live stage show will take place on Oxford Street, with onstage entertainment starting at 17:30 UK time with the players expected to arrive at approximately 19:30.
