John Cena gives verdict on Dan Burn owning a Smart car in 2023's strangest crossover yet

This is one crossover you never expected to see (or, in the case of Cena, not see).

Hollywood megastar John Cena praised Newcastle United defender Dan Burn for his “nice flex” in a rather unexpected namedrop while promoting his new film.

The WWE wrestler-turned-actor is currently fulfilling media duties while on the press tour for Fast X, the tenth instalment in the Fast & Furious film franchise.

Cena plays Jakob Toretto, the brother of protagonist Dom, played by Vin Diesel, alongside a whole host of household names, including Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, and Jason Statham. With a reported production budget of $340m, the movie is the eighth-most-expensive film ever made.

It is perhaps hardly surprising then that with such pedigree attached to the project very few could have predicted that the Magpies’ towering defender would be among those to get a mention. Stranger still that Cena, a favourite among meme-fanatics for his iconic ‘You can’t see me’ catchphrase, would praise his “nice flex”.

But, sure enough, a video has emerged online of Cena doing just that as he commends the Blyth-born 31-year-old on his choice of car. You can watch it below.

“Nice, so I like this,” Cena says. “Dan Burn owns a smart car. And he’s six foot seven.

“This is a conscious effort to make a statement and that’s why cars are like art. They are expressions of who we are.

Cena continues: “This guy knows his self-worth. He looks in the mirror every day and says, ‘I’m enough’. And a fancy car doesn’t define me.

“Dan Burn – nice flex. Sick burn.”

Inevitably, Burn’s “sick burn” has lit up social media, with fans taking to Twitter to express equal parts joy and bewilderment.

“Words can’t express how confused I am right now,” one wrote.

“This might be the best thing I’ve ever seen,” another added.

While a third posted: “John Cena and Dan Burn collab is crazy, need Paul Dummett and The Rock next.”

Sadly for Newcastle supporters, there is little evidence to suggest that Cena is actually a bona fide fan of Eddie Howe’s team. An Instagram post from Cena in 2022 at Stamford Bridge indicates that he may, in fact, be a Chelsea fan.

However, the point remains: John Cena and Dan Burn is one crossover nobody saw coming.
