If he had the option to sign one player from the Premier League to join former club Liverpool, pundit Jamie Carragher would bring the "absolutely sensational" Kevin De Bruyne to Anfield.
The Belgian midfielder has been in fine form of late for Manchester City after a stop-start campaign and on Saturday, he recorded his 80th assist in the Premier League, the same amount as David Beckham.
In fact, De Bruyne reached the milestone in 68 less appearances than former Manchester United midfielder Beckham; an impressive feat all things considered.
Following an ankle injury he picked up at Euro 2020, as well as contracting COVID in November, City manager Pep Guardiola praised De Bruyne for his performances of late.
“He’s getting better. I don’t think [he has far to go],” Guardiola said in late December.
"We’ve had six years together with Kevin. What we’ve done when he was fit … he has something unique in the world. We know it. Kevin is an exceptional player."
Plenty of fans and pundits alike have praised De Bruyne in recent weeks, including Jamie Carragher, who says he would sign the midfielder for Liverpool if he had the option of any Premier League player.
You can watch Carragher speak about the Belgian below.
Carragher said: “Kevin De Bruyne. I think he’s one of the best players in the world... certainly in the last two or three years he’s been the best midfield player in the world.
“People always say Liverpool lack creativity in midfield. I think it’s a bit harsh because I think Liverpool get their creativity from different areas, it’s just the way the team’s set up.
“That midfield three, whoever it is, does a lot of work for the front three and for the full-backs. So, they’ve got a job to do and they do it really well.
“I just think that Kevin De Bruyne is absolutely sensational. I think in that right channel, maybe getting in the way of Trent I don’t know! But I’d say Kevin De Bruyne is the first one that springs to mind.”
Thoughts on Carragher's comments about De Bruyne? If you could choose any player from the Premier League to sign for your club, who would it be and why?
