Jamie Carragher's 'Player of the Match' choice for Newcastle vs. Liverpool baffles fans

Liverpool fans couldn't believe Jamie Carragher's decision.

Jamie Carragher's bizarre 'Player of the Match' choice for Newcastle United vs. Liverpool has left fans scratching their heads.

Liverpool made it two big league wins in as many games after picking up three points against fourth-placed Newcastle on Saturday.

Goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gapko inside 17 minutes ensured Liverpool's win on the road as they resurrect their Champions League qualification hopes.

Jurgen Klopp's team looked like the team that's been challenging and winning titles over the years as they also kept their first clean sheet away from home since April.

But Carragher decided against handing the 'Player of the Match' award to a Liverpool player, instead opting for a Newcastle star despite his side's defeat at St. James' Park.

He named Allan Saint-Maximin as the best player on the pitch, with fans online questioning his interesting choice.

One Twitter user wrote: "Loads you could say about that game but nothing more important than questioning why Carragher just gave Allan Saint-Maximin MOTM."

A second tweeted: "Carragher chatting some absolute waffle as well. What's he been on about? Saint-Maximin man of the match???"

A third added: "Saint-Maximin getting MOTM for running sideways really fast."

A fourth joked: "Saint-Maximin man of the match is mad. He's just charged around going nowhere and booted the ball wide."

Another said: "Yes he played well, but Alisson made at least 4 big saves today. Should’ve been player of the match."

Liverpool fans reckon Allison should have been named 'Player of the Match' for his heroics between the sticks.

While others backed Trent Alexander-Arnold, who helped his side keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's victory over Newcastle moves them to 35 points on the board, six points behind Eddie Howe's team.

It's just the Magpies' second league defeat of the season as they remain in a Champions League spot.
