Kiwior's agent reveals the cheeky 'tactical play' Arsenal used to convince him to join

The agent of new Arsenal signing Jakub Kiwior has revealed a tactic the Gunners used while in talks for his client to join the club.

The agent of new Arsenal signing Jakub Kiwior has revealed a tactic the Gunners used while in talks for his client to join the club.

Kiwior signed for Arsenal on Monday, agreeing to a long-term contract with the club.

He became the Gunners' second January signing, following the deal for Leandro Trossard to join the club from Brighton.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who can also play at left-back and defensive midfield, is adept on the ball as well as in the tackle, making him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta's style of play.

Speaking in his first official interview with the club's website, Kiwior said: "I've always dreamt of playing in the Premier League.

"I knew it wouldn't be easy, and if I got the chance, then I knew I'd have to make the most of it because it was one of my biggest dreams. For me, it's the best leagues. I'm thrilled to be here.

"It's huge for me that Arsenal were interested and that I'm able to be here. I'm aware that Arsenal are a massive club in a top league, so I didn't really have to think about much else. I was just ecstatic and really wanted to come."

Kiwior didn't need much convincing, therefore, to join Arsenal, but the club still pulled out all the stops to ensure a positive outcome in talks.

Kiwior agent on Arsenal transfer

Speaking to Polish outlet Kanal Sportowy (translation via Dominik Watorski), Kiwior's agent, Pawel Zimonczyk, revealed what Arsenal did during negotiations that gave him a hint of the Gunners' plans for the centre-back.

He explained: "The plan is clear. When I went to London Colney, there was a tactical board where the players in each position, 1, 2, 3 are listed.

"There was an empty space under Gabriel, I don't know if it was a tactical play to get us a little bit.

"His role will be to compete with Gabriel but Kuba [Kiwior] has the versatility to play in other positions."

As a left-footed defender, Kiwior will be attempting to challenge Gabriel for a spot in the team, with the Brazilian having started every Premier League game this term.

But his versatility will also have attracted the attention of the Gunners, and the player will hope to impress and get plenty of playing time between now and the end of the season.
