Brentford fans were ruthlessly heard chanting 'you let your country down' to Harry Kane during their Premier League clash against Tottenham.

The England captain was savagely mocked by supporters at the Gtech Community Stadium as the league season resumed on Monday.

It comes after the 29-year-old missed a vital penalty in his national team's crushing defeat to France at the World Cup.

He ballooned a spot-kick as the Three Lions crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-final stage.

And minutes upon returning to club action, Kane was targeted by Brentford fans. They chanted 'you let your country down' towards the star forward.

The Brentford faithful were also heard chanting 'you're just a sh*t Ivan Toney' to the Spurs man.

The chants didn't seem to affect Kane as he scored his side's first goal in their 2-2 draw against Brentford.

He headed home to make it 2-1 before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg levelled proceedings.

Vitaly Janelt and Ivan Toney had put Brentford two-up.

Before the league fixture against Brentford, Spurs boss Antonio Conte said he wasn't worried about the mindset of his main man.

"We are talking about a world-class striker, I am not worried about it," he said. "I saw him these two days with us, [he is] very well. Football is this: you can have an exciting moment and also have a moment when you are disappointed.

"He missed the second penalty, but he scored the first. When I was a player I never missed a penalty because I didn’t [take a] kick. Never. I was a real disaster.

"But I still lost a final with a penalty [shootout] against Brazil."

Kane has now scored 12 league goals this campaign as Spurs entertain Aston Villa on New Year's Day.
