The nominees for the 2023 Golden Boy have been revealed and according to the ratings, there should be a clear winner.

Last year, the prestigious award was handed to Barcelona youngster Pablo Gavi, who managed to beat the likes of Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham to the accolade.

Ahead of this year’s award, Football Benchmark have rated each nominee’s chances and it resulted in a clear favourite.

Starting off the top 10 is Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini, who was given a rating of 80.2.

Ajax defender Devyne Rensch came in ninth place with a score of 80.6, with RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko just ahead with a rating of 80.7.

Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz was ranked seventh with a score of 83.7, with highly rated Dutchman Xavi Simons in sixth with a rating of 87. Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde was next having been given a rating of 87.8.

Kicking off the top four is Benfica’s Antonio Silva, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League. The Portuguese youngster was given a 91.6 rating by Football Benchmark.

In third place is last year’s winner Gavi, who has an overall rating of 93.

Bellingham is tipped to miss out again as his rating of 95 was only good enough for second place.

According to Football Benchmark, the clear winner for the 2023 Golden Boy will be Bayern Munich’s Musiala, who has been given a rating of 98.3.

During the 22/23 season, Musiala was one of Bayern’s stand-out stars having recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Previously, Musiala revealed he idolised Lionel Messi and Neymar when he was growing up.

Speaking to Bundesliga, he said: “Growing up, I watched a lot of Messi videos and Neymar as well. It always amazed me how they went into the dribbles and it was always entertaining to watch them play.”
