If Liverpool start badly next season then Jurgen Klopp could get the sack, says Gabriel Agbonlahor.

It has been a hugely disappointment campaign for the Reds, who look set to miss out on Champions League football next season, despite a late revival.

Manchester United and Newcastle secured wins over Bournemouth and Brighton respectively this week, while last season's Premier League runners-up stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.

In fact, they needed a late equaliser from Roberto Firmino on his final game at Anfield to pick up a point.

After the full-time whistle on Saturday afternoon, talkSPORT regular Gabriel Agbonlahor made some bold comments about Jurgen Klopp's future.

The 36-year-old former Aston Villa striker says he can see Liverpool sacking the German manager if they start next season like they did this campaign.

“This is a really, really bad season for Liverpool and the standards they’ve set,” he said. “They’re 19 points behind Manchester City, who they pushed last season to the league.

“If you go back to the start of the season, when Man United lost 4-0 at Brentford and Jurgen Klopp phones up [talkSPORT] and he’s moaning about how I spoke about Manchester United, the game after, they lose to Manchester United.

"And look at their season, it’s been a bad season for Liverpool. If they start next season badly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Klopp gets sacked.”

Here's how fans reacted to Agbonlahor's comments.

One said: "No chance they sack him but I don’t see him staying there after next season if they're not challenging for the league either, and with City probably only going to improve in the summer. It will be a tough task."

Another wrote: "Couldn’t be further from the truth, he’s had an off season, so what. Still only a few wins away from top 4. They need investment into the team like City, United, Arsenal etc. Next season it will be like it has been, LFC and City fighting for it."

A third commented: "This guy has no idea how there would be mutiny if that happens… he has his own agenda against Klopp. I would sell EVERY player before getting rid of Klopp… and most of the fans would agree with me."

A fourth added: "Gabby knows nothing. Klopp won’t get the sack, Klopp will control when he leaves. The fans won’t allow him to be sacked."

Thoughts on Agbonlahor's comments? Does he have a point? Let us know.
