Diego Forlan's name will forever be sung by Manchester United fans due to his two goals against Liverpool in 2002, not that Jose Mourinho realised that when he was the club's manager.

The Uruguayan striker might not have had the best time of it in the Premier League but he achieved cult status at Old Trafford for just how hard he tried during his three seasons with the club.

When he was manager of the club, Mourinho clearly didn't know about the love fans still had for the player, as he once had to ask Michael Carrick who exactly 'Diego' was and then follow up to ask why fans were singing about the striker.

Of course the main reason that the 41-year-old is still loved in the red half of Manchester 14 years after leaving the club, to move to Spain where things went better for him, is his brace against Liverpool in 2002.

The former Villarreal scored twice in two minutes, helped by Jerzy Dudek's mistake for the opener, to help United win 2-1 against their main rivals at Anfield.

Speaking after the incident with Jose and coach Carrick, Forlan told the National, "Soon after the match ended, I received messages which showed television footage of Jose Mourinho turning to Michael Carrick to ask who Diego was.

"United fans were singing about me in the away end, something which I cannot believe still happens. I loved my time at United and had a good relationship with supporters.

"But I am sure there are many others who say exactly the same, some of them who had more successful careers at the club than I had. And they do not get their names sung.

"It is all very flattering, but I love that catchy little song: 'Diego, wooah, Diego, wooah, he came from Uruguay, he made the Scousers cry'.

"People still come up to me wherever I am in the world and remind me of two goals scored in a Premier League match 15 years ago more often than they do about my goals which saw me as the top scorer in the 2010 World Cup."

Scoring twice to beat your rivals will always make you a legend at a club forever, Forlan's name is certainly set to be sung at Old Trafford a lot longer than Mourinho's ever was.
