Unfortunately for the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund player, Rooney had other ideas when he came to shake his hand.

The DC United star handed out a 'royal custard pie' to the Chelsea target, as he left him hanging and instead turned to Jadon Sancho for a handshake and a hug.

Check it out below.

Take a bow, Rooney!

Jesse Lingard opened the scoring for the Three Lions with a brilliant finish. Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold doubled their lead and Callum Wilson scored the third on his England debut.

After the match, the highly rated Sancho thanked Rooney for his advice ahead of playing at Wembley Stadium for the first time.

"I told Wayne that I was nervous and he came over and told me to be confident, that I had nothing to lose," he said (via Evening Standard).

"I have to thank him because, without that advice, I might have still been really nervous."

Meanwhile, Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek also paid tribute to England and United's all-time record scorer.

"It's a good thing that players from the past are involved in this way," he said.

"I never thought I'd be on the same pitch as Rooney in an England shirt. He has been great around the boys."
