Even Manchester United players have discussions about which footballer is the greatest of all time, with Bruno Fernandes revealing he backs fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo and arch nemesis Lionel Messi are often discussed in the conversation of who is the greatest player of all time.

The G.O.A.T conversation often comes down to that pair right now, although players from the past are also worthy of their spots in the discussion.

It would come as a surprise to no one to hear that United midfielder Fernandes is in the corner of his national team teammate, Ronaldo, when it comes to discussions.

The former Sporting player revealed that he's often arguing with Brazilian pair Alex Telles and Fred about who the greatest ever is, and the two South Americans haven't exactly gone for a surprising choice either.

"[Fred and Telles] always talk about who is the best player in the world, in history," the 26-year-old told the United website in a Q&A.

"We always fight because they say Pele was the best in the history of football.

"I put Cristiano in the middle, of course.

"For me, Cristiano and Messi have been making history for many years and they were capable of being at the top for many years.

"And, of course, the same as me, [Fred and Telles' have never seen Pele play so they can't say he was the best because they never saw him."

"They say it because they're Brazilian and, in Brazil, they say it," Fernandes added.

"I think Pele is one of the best in the world because I hear people talking about him.

"I've seen some videos... everyone can see [Diego] Maradona, Eusebio and people talk about Pele as being the best of all time.

"But we always fight about Rivaldo and [Luis] Figo and which one was best.

"So, for me as a Portuguese, I always defend my players.

"It doesn't matter if I like them or not, I defend the Portuguese players every time.

"So this is a fight between Brazilian and Portuguese people but it is more of a joke than other stuff."

Fernandes is unlikely to get close to being of the quality of his fellow countryman, or equal his achievements at Old Trafford, but he is still as well loved by United fans right now.

Since moving from Sporting last January, the 26-year-old has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's best player and has scored 36 goals in just 73 games.
