Paul Pogba was subject to plenty of criticism from football fans last season after his world record move back to Manchester United from Juventus.

The Frenchman finished the season having won two trophies in the form of the EFL Cup and Europa League, netting nine goals and registering four assists in all competitions, but the common view is that the 24-year old should have done more to justify his £89 million price tag.

Last night however, Pogba showed exactly what he's all about and provided concrete evidence as to why United forked out the big bucks to bring him back to the club as he produced a scintillating, all-action midfield display against England.

He completely and utterly rinsed Gary Cahill with this silky passage of play:

Sitting in midfield alongside N'Golo Kante, Pogba completely ran the game as France ran out 3-2 winners against England at the Stade de France.

And Pogba's classy and composed display led to a Tweet from 2013 posted by Spurs and England midfielder Dele Alli, who lined up against Pogba in last night's five-goal thriller, doing the rounds again.

Four years ago, Alli, then months away from turning 17, was in awe of Pogba's performance, which saw he him score a brace - including an absolute thunderbastard served up in a 4-0 win over Udinese, positively referring to the Le Havre youth product as a "joke" in the following Tweet:

Pogba's masterclass no doubt led to Alli's Twitter notifications exploding, as the Tweet has now garnered over 34,000 Retweets and 16,000 likes.

Alli spent the majority of his teenage life Tweeting about the need to mix Fanta and Coke when you go to Nandos and how fast his day at school went, but his Pogba-related Tweet is surely his best performing post now, and he can thank his fellow midfielder for giving him those extra numbers all those years later, thanks to his magical performance last night.

He'd obviously swap those Retweets for an England victory though, given that the Three Lions had a brilliant opportunity to beat France on home soil following the controversial sending off for Raphael Varane, and subsequent converted penalty from Harry Kane to make the scores 2-2 just after half-time.
