More than 1,000 FPL managers appear to make simple Mamadou Sangare mistake after 14-point haul

It appears that a large number of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players are making the same mistake after midfielder Mamadou Sangare recorded a 14-point haul on his Brentford debut.

Sangare, who joined Brentford from RC Lens this month for a club-record £39 million, made a huge impression on his first competitive start for the Bees.

The 24-year-old's ability to cover ground was on show throughout the 3-0 win over Tottenham as he recorded two tackles, two interceptions and two clearances on a memorable Premier League debut.

He also chipped in with two assists, meaning the Mali international scored 14 points on FPL after receiving three bonus points.

Sangare's performance has caught the eye of many. At the time of writing, 197,978 players have transferred the midfielder into their FPL team ahead of Gameweek 2, but some appear to have made a big mistake.

As pointed out by X user FPL S7S, a significant number of players have seemingly bought Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare (£5.0m) instead of Mamadou Sangare (£5.5m).

In fact, 1,498 people have transferred the Ivory Coast international into their squad, with some even admitting on social media that they were part of that group.

One wrote: "I'm one of them," and a second commented: "Yep I can confirm I'm one of them."

Ibrahim Sangare, who started for Forest in their 1-0 defeat to Leeds on Saturday, scored just two FPL points after playing the full 90 minutes against Daniel Farke's side.

Brighton's Maxim De Cuyper was the highest-scoring player in GW1

It was a memorable weekend for De Cuyper, who was GW1's top performer with 17 points after he notched a goal, an FPL assist and a clean sheet for Brighton in their 4-0 win over Aston Villa.

The Belgian earned more points than any other player, including teammate Jack Hinshelwood (16) and Hull City's Nobel Mendy (15), as well as Mamadou Sangare (14), Semi Ajayi (14), Anton Stach (13) and Cole Palmer (13).

As a result of injuries to Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh, Fabian Hurzeler deployed De Cuyper in a more attacking role for the Seagulls on Saturday, a move that paid off for many FPL players.

The 25-year-old is a full-back by trade and is categorised as a defender on the Fantasy Premier League website.

In total, only 3.5% of players chose the £4.5m De Cuyper for GW1, including Saif Ali, who went as far as triple-captaining the former Club Brugge and Club NXT defender, earning 51 points as a result.
