Former Barcelona youngster who played under Pep Guardiola could finally get to play at the Camp Nou thanks to the Kings League.

After retiring from professional football in late 2022, former Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique launched the seven-a-side football league named ‘The Kings League’.

The popular new competition has attracted some of the biggest stars and now, a former Barcelona wonderkid could finally make his debut at the Camp Nou as the top four teams of the Kings League will play each other at Barcelona’s famous home stadium.

Javi Espinosa came through the academy alongside the likes of Sergi Roberto and Gerard Deulofeu but never actually made a first-team appearance for the Catalan club.

He was coached by the likes of Luis Enrique and Guardiola during his time with the club.

Speaking to Di Marzio, Espinosa spoke about playing in Pique’s Kings League.

He said: “I'm flipping myself. Every day that passes I want to go back to playing immediately afterwards. There is great entertainment, but also a very high technical level and a lot of intensity.

“The normal football is starting to get boring. People like us to play football but in a different way, it may seem like a strange football but it works.”

Espinosa added: “I found myself very well. The pitch is small but it's very difficult to play on it if you're not in shape. We have a great team, from the president to the players, they made me feel right at home.”

Espinosa also spoke about the coaching styles of Enrique and Guardiola.

He said: “I’ve never seen an approach like Enrique’s except with Guardiola. He has a strong character and a very beautiful vision of football. He's a fantastic coach.”

Espinosa’s team are currently the third best team in the Kings League and he could finally realise his dream of gracing the Camp Nou pitch.
