West Ham star Crysencio Summerville was forced to change his kit in the middle of a game on Monday night after breaking a Premier League rule that not many know about.

Summerville signed for the Hammers from Leeds in the summer for a fee in the region of £25 million and he made his 16th appearance of the season in the 2-1 win over Wolves as Jarrod Bowen eased the pressure on Julen Lopetegui on an emotional night after Michail Antonio's horrific car accident.

The Dutchman lined up on the left wing and played 73 minutes in the clash before being replaced by Danny Ings. But the 23-year-old was involved in a bizarre moment early on at the London Stadium.

Around 18 minutes into the game, Summerville came off the pitch for a brief period while the game was going on and had to make an alteration to his kit.

Summerville was wearing a base layer under his claret and blue home strip but the issue was the fact that the sleeves were white.

The sleeves on the home shirt are sky blue and because the undershirt didn't match the colour, the referee ordered him to change. He then took the under armour off and played in a shirt sleeve shirt and gloves.

In IFAB's 'Laws of the game' rulebook on the FA website, Law 4: The Players' Rulebook, explains that undershirts must be "a single colour which is the same colour as the main colour of the shirt sleeve; or. a pattern/colours which exactly replicate(s) the shirt sleeve".

The same approach is adopted with with undershorts/tights as they too "must be the same colour as the main colour of the shorts or the lowest part of the shorts – players of the same team must wear the same colour".

Whether it's Sunday League or the Premier League, officials take it very seriously. Earlier this season, Spurs and Arsenal were forced into an unprecedented kit decision

after the PGMOL ruled that Arsenal's kit contains too much white, clashing with Spurs' home strip.

They wore their black away kit for the 2-0 win, with Spurs forced into wearing their change strip when they travel to the Emirates Stadium later in the season.
