Rio Ferdinand shares Wayne Rooney's greatest ever tweet on his 38th birthday

Rio Ferdinand shares Wayne Rooney's greatest ever tweet on his 38th birthday

It will go down as one of the most iconic tweets ever.

Rio Ferdinand has wished Wayne Rooney a happy birthday by reposting one of the former Manchester United forward's most iconic tweets.

Rooney was renowned for his weird and wonderful tweeting in the early 00's.

From paying tribute to Mr Bean and Whitney Houston, to calling Phil Neville the only mistake David Moyes made in his tenure as Everton manager; the former England captain entertained the masses on a regular basis.

But perhaps his greatest moment came shortly after he joined the social media platform on April 23rd, 2011.

Clearly unaware of how Twitter worked, Rooney took to Twitter at 1:53am and clicked send on the following tweet: "Hi Rio. Do u want picking up in the morning pal".

Since that day, Rooney has picked up more than 50,000 RT's and 58,000 likes on the post.

To celebrate Rooney's 38th birthday, his former Manchester United and England teammate Rio Ferdinand has decided to remind his followers of the iconic post.

Taking to X at around 7am this morning, he posted a screenshot of the tweet alongside the caption: "Happy Birthday Wazza".

Rooney himself wished Ferdinand a happy birthday in 2018. He wrote: "Happy 40th Birthday @rioferdy5. Some great memories but not sure what I did to upset you here."

Ferdinand responded by saying: "You must have forgotten to pick me up in the morning......"

In other Wayne Rooney-related news, it emerged last week that the current Birmingham City manager wanted to apply for law school after becoming obsessed with the 'Wagatha Christie' trial.

Rooney would attend daily briefings with wife Coleen and her lawyers, Paul Lunt and David Sherborne, during the trial.

And he even suggested legal arguments, according to Coleen, who opened up about her husband's thought process in the Disney+ documentary Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story'.

She said: "Wayne shut up and let David or Paul speak. He was then going to apply for law school and he had all these plans."
