Fans slam Wayne Rooney over ‘embarrassing’ comments after Birmingham's latest defeat

Wayne Rooney has been slammed by fans after the comments he made on the back of another Birmingham City defeat.

Back in October, former England and Manchester United forward Rooney was confirmed as Birmingham manager after he left MLS side DC United.

At the time, the decision to remove John Eustace to appoint Rooney did not go down well and the negativity has continued after a dreadful start under the 38-year-old.

Rooney’s Birmingham side have only managed to pick up one point from the 15 available after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by Sunderland.

Speaking after the match, Rooney claimed Birmingham are improving, he said: “I've seen improvements, but we obviously need to start improving the results, and I really believe we will. What I'm seeing in training, and what I'm seeing from the players in matches now, is really positive.

“I think this break will help, just in terms of getting the fitness work into them. That's important in terms of how I want my team to play. We're gradually seeing improvement in that, and it's a good opportunity for us now to really spend some time with the players.”

Fans were quick to show their discontent over Rooney’s comments.

One said: “He must have been watching a different game to me because from my point of view it was abysmal and not at any point was i confident we'd get anything. Fair play to those who made the long journey up for that.”

Another commented: “Bloke must of been watching a different game to me. The last 25 minutes in the first half we were excellent other than that we were abysmal. passing was league 2 standard our defending was utterly embarrassing.”

A third fan added: “He is honestly deluded if he thinks we played well or defended well. We are falling like a rock.”

Someone else wrote: “Every week he tells us he's disappointed with sloppy goals conceded...er...do something about it Rooney. That's literally your job!”
