An uncapped player is set to be included in Thomas Tuchel's first England squad in a shock selection.

Tuchel will name his first England squad on Friday, having replaced Gareth Southgate.

He has observed several Premier League matches up and down the country as he has drawn up a short-list of 55 players ahead of naming his squad for England's World Cup qualifiers.

The Three Lions host Albania on March 21 before taking on Latvia on March 24 - both games are scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium.

Ahead of Friday's announcement, it has been claimed that Dan Burn is set to earn his first England call-up as part of Tuchel's first squad.

That's according to the Daily Mail, who state that the German boss 'has been taken by the versatility' of the Newcastle United man.

Burn, who can play at left-sided centre-back and left-back, has starred under Eddie Howe this season.

Tuchel watched the towering-defender during Newcastle's 1-0 win at West Ham United on Monday.

He started the game at centre-back and played the entire league fixture at the London Stadium.

Burn's potential call-up has opened up following the season-ending injury to his teammate, Lewis Hall, who suffered a foot injury against Liverpool.

This season, Burn has made 35 appearances across all competitions, including 27 league games.

He is set to feature for The Magpies when they face Liverpool on Sunday in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium, which will be his last game before the international break.

The 32-year-old joined the St. James' Park outfit from Brighton for a reported £13 million in January 2022.

Burn, who hails from Blyth, has played 138 matches for Newcastle since his transfer.
