Liverpool and Manchester City fans have clashed on social media after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent comments about the reigning champions.

This season, both Liverpool and City have been fighting at the top in a bid to become Premier League champions.

This weekend, the two top teams in the land are set to clash in what will be a mouth-watering encounter at Anfield.

Speaking ahead of the match, Alexander-Arnold spoke about City’s recent trophies.

As reported by the Daily Mirror, the Liverpool vice-captain said to FourFourTwo: “It's tough. We're up against a machine that's built to win - that's the simplest way to describe City and their organisation.

“Looking back on this era, although they've won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially.”

Alexander-Arnold added: “How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we've done it, probably means more to our fans.”

Reacting on social media, one City fan said: “Congratulations on your “means more” Premier League titles.”

Another tweeted: “Wonder why Trent Alexander Arnold is so salty.”

A third fan added: “That bid for Caceido says otherwise.”

Meanwhile, a Liverpool fan replied: “Sadly Klopp deserved way more. He won’t be remembered by other fans. But Liverpool fans know how much he did for us and it means so much more to us.”

Another commented: “Our League cup got more hype than their treble….”

Someone else added: “Trent literally dunked man City Legacy there lol he's spot on.”

Speaking about this year’s title race, Alexander-Arnold continued: “From the turn of the year, City switch it on and it's a difficult machine to stop.

“But we've shown in the past that we've been able to do it and there's no reason why we can't go and match them this season. We're excited to be involved with City and know we're in a good position.

“I'm sure they'll be motivated, as are we. It's going to be an exciting end.”
