Thomas Tuchel has already made his feelings clear on Marcus Rashford playing for England ahead of naming his first squad since his appointment.

Tuchel replaced Gareth Southgate as England coach and names his first squad next Thursday ahead of World Cup qualifiers this month.

The Three Lions host Albania and Latvia in back-to-back games at the end of the month.

Tuchel has been on a scouting mission since the turn of the year as he picks his first England squad next Thursday, having drawn up a short-list of 55 players.

Whether Rashford will be in the squad remains to be seen, having returned to action following his move away from Manchester United during the January transfer window.

He was banished from the Man United first-team by Ruben Amorim but has enjoyed minutes on the pitch at Aston Villa, where he has shone.

Tuchel has given the 27-year-old hope that he can regain his England spot if he plays regularly, which he has been having started his new side's last two games.

Rashford was left out of Southgate's Euro 2024 squad, but the ex-Chelsea gaffer is a big fan of the star forward, according to a report from The Sun.

A source said: "Tuchel told Marcus and his representatives he saw Marcus as an essential part of the England squad going forward."

Rashford has 60 England caps to his name, scoring 17 goals for his country.

With Tuchel an admirer of the player, he could make the German boss' upcoming squad.

When he was at Paris Saint-Germain, he spoke glowingly about Rashford ahead of a Champions League tie against Man United.

"We value him a lot more when he's playing in England and not in Parc des Princes honestly because it can get a little bit annoying with him," he joked.

"The guy is a very young adult who takes his responsibility off and on the pitch which is honestly very impressive.

"I've met him three times as an opponent and I meet a calm guy, I meet a humble guy which is amazing because I like this mixture a lot."

Tuchel added: "On a sporting side, it is clear he is a big threat with his speed and his ability to score with his precision in finishing and his determination and his quality.

"He is so precise with his finishing both outside and inside the box, he is super rapid on counterattacks and is strong in the air from headers."
