France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry overlooked the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak when naming his favourite striker.

Sporting Clube de Portugal star Gyokeres and Newcastle United talisman Isak are two of the most sought-after strikers in world football.

Over the last few weeks, Gyokeres has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Isak has attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona.

However, it has been reported that a deal for Isak could be very difficult due to Newcastle's reluctance to do business.

Speaking recently, one of the Premier League's best ever players, Henry, snubbed both Gyokeres and Isak when naming his current favourite.

In fact, the Frenchman named ex-Manchester City and current Atletico Madrid man, Julian Alvarez.

He said on the Stick To Football podcast: "One of my favourite nines out there at the minute is Julian Alvarez. And you know, we’ve been talking about it. Putting pressure, playing it long, low, whatever you want to do.

"You see the free kick he scored the other day. He can hold the ball alone. He played at the Olympic Games, he played the Copa America."

Henry added: "I don’t hear him saying I’m tired or not tired. He plays it, hopefully, nothing bad’s gonna happen to him.

"He played everything. And the way he plays it, I just like him. But is it possible [for Arsenal]? I don’t know."

When quizzed on Alvarez's future, Atletico boss Diego Simeone said: "Julian is 25 years old, he’s an extraordinary player, with hunger, with enthusiasm, with humility, with work, with goals, with hierarchy. How could everyone not want him?

"And Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool…the best have to want him. And for us, Atletico fans, it should be a source of pride that everyone wants him. Why? Because he’s ours."

Alvarez is set to play a part in Atletico's bid to win the FIFA Club World Cup this month.
