Ronaldo Nazario had no doubts when naming the England player who he believed could have played for Brazil.

Ronaldo represented the Brazil national team between 1994 and 2011, scoring 62 goals in just 98 caps.

The legendary striker lifted the World Cup in 1994 and 2002, with the latter year seeing him win the Ballon d'Or award for the second time in his career.

During the tournament, Ronaldo's Brazil met England in the quarter-final, in what was a game made famous by Ronaldinho lobbing Three Lions goalkeeper David Seaman to send Sven-Goran Eriksson's side crashing out of the tournament.

Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid after winning the World Cup - where he would play alongside England's captain at the tournament, David Beckham.

While on a video call back in 2020, the two players reminisced on their time playing in La Liga. And Beckham recalled how Ronaldo once told him that he was the only England player that was good enough to play for Brazil.

The Manchester United legend explained: "When I moved from Manchester, and I had been there my whole life, to move to Madrid was a big move for me.

"One of the first people that I ever saw was you. When you walked into the changing room, it made me feel comfortable to be at the club.

"I remember you turning around to me and saying that the Brazil squad believed that if there was any English player that could play in the Brazilian team, it would be me.

"But I never believed you, because Brazilian players are the best players! You know that."

Ronaldo called Beckham 'one of the best of all time' in his use of the football, and said: "Without looking at me, the balls would come. I should thank you for the many balls you gave to me. You were amazing."
