Fans think Peter Crouch has signed for a new club out of the blue.

Back in 2019, Crouch announced his retirement from professional football after a career that spanned more than 20 years.

The 6ft7 striker played for the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Making more than 460 appearances in the Premier League, Crouch is one of the most well-known strikers of his generation.

Since retiring, Crouch has been appearing on TNT Sports as a pundit and is also a podcast host alongside former Capital Breakfast presenter Chris Stark and ex-footballer Steve Sidwell.

However, ahead of this weekend’s football fixtures, League One side Burton Albion has teased a big return on social media after posting a picture of Crouch holding up a shirt with his name and number on the back.

The caption read: “A big return... 09.10.23 #BAFC #BackStronger.”

18th-placed Burton are set to take on Cambridge United on Monday, October 9, which could be a hint that Crouch is due to return.

Whilst it is currently unclear what capacity Crouch will be appearing, fans have been speculating on social media.

One said: “He’s only 38. Get them crosses in for him!”

Another commented: “The robot out of retirement.”

A third fan added: “World class signing.”

Recently speaking on his podcast, Crouch gave his own views on the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate.

He said: “I don't know if I should say this or not. I feel if you say Ronaldo, you don't know football very well.

“I think Ronaldo is incredible - incredible - but I do look a little bit down on you if you say Ronaldo.”
