Newcastle United battered PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday night

Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff thought he had bagged Kylian Mbappe’s shirt but Kieran Trippier’s son got it instead.

On Wednesday night, Newcastle welcomed French giants Paris Saint Germain to a packed-out St.James’ Park for their first Champions League home match for 20 years.

PSG went into the match as the favourites but they produced an awful performance as Newcastle dismantled the Paris club.

Goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Longstaff and Fabian Schar were enough to record a stunning 4-1 for the Magpies. Lucas Hernandez was the scorer for the visitors.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, local boy Longstaff revealed that he tried to get Mbappe’s shirt during the match.

He said: “I was blocking him from a goal-kick so I tried to get it for my little brother.

“So hopefully, I still get it!”

However, Mbappe’s shirt went to Trippier’s son after young Jacob walked past the TNT Sports panel with the Frenchman’s shirt wrapped around him.

Trippier revealed prior to the clash that his son is a huge fan of Mbappe and wanted to walk out with him.

TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand was heard saying: “You've walked away with Mbappe's... Is that Mbappe's shirt?”

On Newcastle’s famous victory, Longstaff said: “It's some night I think we knew as a group that it was going to be some atmosphere.

“But I think with me and Dan Burn both scoring on a night like tonight is pretty surreal.”

He added: “There were a few who thought three years ago that we were probably out the door and it was not a great place to be but since the takeover it’s been a great place to be. It's been an unbelievable night and I’m so proud to be from Newcastle.

“The semi final here last year was close but this is a different level this is the elite of the elite.”
