Lionel Messi has officially become the second highest International goal scorer against Canada in Copa America. He is now the first player to score in six Copa America competitions.

Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 and secured their finals spot in Miami, where they’ll face the winner of Columbia and Uruguay.

Messi scored in the 50th minute and was awarded the player of the match honours in front of more than 80,000 fans at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.

He passes Ali Daei on the International goal scorers leaderboard with 109 goals, only trailing Cristiano Ronaldo on 130.

Messi had an early opportunity to put his side up with a kick from right in front but pushed it wide to the right.

Julian Alvarez scored first for Argentina off a slick set up from Rodrigo De Paul.

Messi now has an opportunity to win his second Copa America, which would also be his second consecutive win.
